Rummage Sale

RUMMAGE SALE at Desboro Music Hall

We are having a Rummage Sale for TWO days!  Stop on by either on Sat July 24: 8am – 3pm OR Sun July 25: 11am – 3pm.  Half of the proceeds will go to Desboro Music Hall.

This is our second fundraiser to make some money for the Music Hall.  2021 will be our second year without holding any concerts.  We are crossing our fingers that next year, we will be able to once again have concerts inside the Hall without a limit on numbers.  In the meanwhile, we have had to be a little creative in how we pay the bills.  We’re lucky as we don’t have to pay rent or layoff any staff.  We are looking forward to welcoming people back into the Hall, even if it’s not for a concert.  So come out and Support the Desboro Music Hall on July 24 or 25.

We will be following all COVID protocols.  Please wear a mask and keep 2m/6′ apart.  Patrons inside will be limited.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at (519) 377-2358 or email us at [email protected]

COVID-19 Update

UPDATED: Mon June 22, 2020

We are sad to announce we have decided to postpone our 2020 Season and move it, as much as possible, to 2021. I know things look like they’re opening up, but having an indoor concert will still be a long time in the future. This decision was not taken lightly as it is financially difficult to do so but for the health and safety of our patrons and musicians, it is the only reasonable decision at this time.

Season Pass and gift certificate holders will be contacted. If you have not heard from us in the next week or two, please email us at [email protected]

We will let you know the new dates as soon as we can. And we will continue to keep an eye on restrictions and perhaps do something in the Fall, if possible.

We will continue to share concerts we hear about to share the music.
Take care of each other and stay safe and healthy.

NEW for 2019

So we’re changing a couple things for 2019.  This will be our fourth year running and so we’ve learned a few things in the previous years.

  1. We will no longer have box office hours in 2019.  There are still several ways you can reach us/buy tickets.  You can phone (519) 377-2358 or go online (to our website or the links we post) or email us ([email protected]).   If you want to meet up with us, just use one of those methods to contact us and we can figure it out.  And we will still open at 7pm the night of the concert with music starting at 7:30pm so you can come early and get your tickets at the door.
  2. We are changing our pricing.  The only way to get the $20 ticket price is to get a Season Pass.  Otherwise, tickets are all $25. Season Passes will get you tickets to all 7 of our shows and a free snack or drink.  (and reserved seating if requested).  Season Passes are available up to our first concert in April.

Stay tuned for our 2019 Line-up Announcement!  Coming soon….

Meet My Father’s Son

Consisting of Mark Kulmala (from Mountain of Wolves) on guitar and voice and Paul Meadows (from Uisca Beatha, The Beauties) on voice and fiddle, My Father’s Son brings us evocative, paired down songs.

They have released their first album, “Heart of Wood” and are currently working on their next album.  The album’s themes of fleeting innocence, love’s lost and found, determination, and the simple beauty of the landscape are sure to resonate with listeners.

It should be a great night of music.

Meet Rob Szabo

Rob Szabo has been in the music business with various hats. He has 6 self-produced albums, numerous Juno nominations and a win, Maple Blues Awards, Canadian Folk Music Award for Producer of the Year and the list goes on.  He has been a part of two bands, rock funk, “The Groove Daddys” and alt-rock band, “Plascticine”.  His taste in music is very eclectic ranging from metal to synth pop to folk.  He has produced and co-written on countless albums.

His own music is honest with wry observations.

“Rob makes wry and sometimes pointed observations, with soulful confessionals often sung with a curious blend of hope and melancholy. It is a voice of clarity and of authority, and reminds the audience that there are core truths to be taken from everyday experiences of life and love.”
– Jo Beattie AD Coldsnap Festival (Prince George, BC, CANADA)

But we haven’t seen him in concert in this area for awhile.  He’s been busy producing and co-writing on various projects and composing for film and TV while performing at a select few concerts.  So that means, we are one of the lucky few who will actually get to see him live and in concert!  So don’t miss your chance.  It’s the final show of our 2018 Season.

Meet Graham Nicholas

Graham Nicholas was named one of the “Toronto Musicians to watch for in 2018: Singer-Songwriter Edition” in NOW magazine from Toronto.  And you get to see him open for Lonesome Ace Stringband on Sat Sept 22!

He’s just released his latest album, “Dial Tones and Pretty Notes”.  With his irreverant humour this is storytelling through thoughtful lyrics within the background of country/folk music.  It’s a pleasure to listen to this album and will be even better hearing it live.

Meet the Lonesome Ace Stringband

If you like old time Appalachian music, you should come see The Lonesome Ace Stringband.  Three talented musicians in their own right come together and create music that will have you tapping your feet and in awe of their virtuosity and artistry.

Chris Coole on banjo has been involved with over 150 recordings including David Francey, Jim Cuddy and Natalie MacMaster.  Chances are he’s playing fiddle on one of your favourite CDs.  He has been playing since he was 17 and spent 10 years learning his craft by busking in Toronto.

John Showman has played fiddle since he was 6.  He started in classical violin until he was 19 and tired of it.  He didn’t play again until he heard Irish fiddle player, Kevin Burke.  And since then he hasn’t stopped.

Max Heineman was born into a musical family.  By the time he was 12, he was singing and playing bass with his family’s band in a weekly gig.  He got his first upright bass in high school and discovered bluegrass in 1998.

In 2009 they decided to form The Lonesome Ace Stringband and we are lucky they are gracing Desboro Music Hall with their amazing musicianship.  This is a show you don’t want to miss, especially if you love bluegrass.

Come see them live on Sat Sept 22

Meet Dana Sipos

Expanding our boundaries of what we think of as folk music, we bring to Desboro, Dana Sipos.  In fact her album, “Roll up the Night Sky” was nominated for a 2015 Canadian Folk Music Awards in the “Pushing Boundaries” category.  Her varied life experiences help influence many of these songs.  She has lived in Yellowknife, toured full time for four years, performed on a tall boat with The Caravan Stage Company (starting the show off by zip-lining overtop of the audience to the boat!) and been on the Jerry Springer podcast.  Come out Aug 11 to hear more of her amazing stories.  .Check out her video “Night Sky”.

Meet Pat Maloney

THREE DAYS TO GO!  Here is our last artist.

Pat Maloney is hard to pin down to one genre of music.  He likes to play around.  As he says, “Considering an endless access to a century of popular music, and my love for a wide variety of styles, it would be unfulfilling to pigeon-hole my creativity into one genre of music.  I write what comes out naturally without stuffing it into a box.  I’m not really a folk singer, I just sound like one sometimes.”  – Pat Maloney

So that’s what’s exciting about his shows.  You never know what kind of music you will hear.  He’s also a great storyteller so his shows are always an interesting time.  Incorporating whistling, his guitar and honest lyrics, Pat has built a following across campuses in Canada, USA, UK and Ireland.  In fact, winning the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities Singer-Songwriter of the Year twice!

Come on out on Sat July 21 to see it all for yourselves.
